Both PRP and PRF have many uses, but at Sakura Skin, we use it to rejuvenate the skin. The platelets that are within the plasma contain growth factors, which stimulate skin tissue repair and regeneration, as well as new collagen and elastin production. This process results in skin that's healthier, firmer, tighter, and more youthful-looking. When patients arrive for their treatment, blood is drawn from a vein and placed into a centrifuge so that the plasma can be separated from the red blood cells and other impurities. The plasma is then placed into a syringe so that it can be injected into the face. It can also be used in conjunction with other treatments such as microneedling, microdermabrasion, facials, and dermal fillers.

KEY BENEFITS OF PRP AND PRF

  • Overall tissue rejuvenation/regeneration
  • Reduced appearance of scars
  • Improved skin tone and texture
  • Minimized pores
  • Reduced wrinkles and fine lines
  • Brand-new collagen and elastin production
  • Natural and chemical-free

HOW ARE PRP AND PRF DIFFERENT?

AMOUNT OF GROWTH FACTORS - PRF delivers about 8-10 times more growth factors than PRP does.

EXTRACTION - PRP's extraction process involves additives and chemicals to thin the blood, while PRF is extracted in a process that is completely natural and unmodified, with no additives.

CONCENTRATION - During the spinning process, PRF is separated using a different angle and a lower spin speed (g-force) than PRP, as well as a different type of vial. This different spinning process means that the platelets and white blood cells remain at the top of the vial, providing a higher concentration of the growth factors.

BLOOD FLOWAND DIFFUSION - PRF triggers more blood flow, which essentially gets better results than PRP. PRF also spreads more slowly when administered, which means that the body is able to take advantage of the growth factors more efficiently.

RESULTS - PRF releases the growth factors for a longer period of time than PRP due to the blood-thinning additives that PRP has. This means that PRP is only "active" for about one day, while PRF is active for about one week.

COST - PRF treatments cost more than PRP treatments due to the advantages that PRF has.

RECOVERY AND RESULTS

PRP and PRF do not require any downtime. Patients can go right back to their normal activities, although some have mild soreness, bruising, itching, and/or scabs at the treatment sites for a day or so. The first results will take approximately three months to become apparent, with final results visible at 6-12 months. Once results are finalized, you will see the rejuvenating benefits of the treatment, which include brighter, healthier, smoother skin.

PRP HAIR RESTORATION

PRP can effectively stimulate a renewed blood supply and proper nutrients to run-down hair follicles, which can work to restore the hair growth process. The renewed growth helps to fill in areas of receding or thinning hair. PRP is a natural serum derived directly from your own cells to initiate regeneration. Injections of PRP allow us to obtain a deeper penetration of PRP into the scalp thereby amplifying hair restoration capabilities.

PRP for hair loss works by encouraging your dormant hair follicles back to life and support hair growth in your current hair follicles. This, in turn, can make your hair appear both thicker and fuller.

A series of three treatments every six weeks is required for optimal results with a maintenance treatment every six months to maintain and continue to receive desired results.

The following is a list growth factors harvested in the Platelet Rich Plasma that are beneficial in hair growth and restoration, additional growth factors are present with anti-aging benefits as well. PRP specific growth factors that cause hair growth include:

  • Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF) - promotes blood vessel growth, cell replication, skin formation
  • Transforming Growth-Factor-Beta (TGF-b) - promotes growth of matrix between cells, bone metabolism
  • Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) - promotes blood vessel formation
  • Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) - promotes cell growth and differentiation, blood vessel formation, collagen formation
  • Fibroblast Growth Factor-2 (FGF-2) - promotes growth of specialized cells and blood vessel formation
  • Insulin Like Growth Factor - (IGF) - a regulator of normal physiology in nearly every type of cell in the body
  • Keratinocyte Growth Factor (KGF) - an important endogenous mediator of hair follicle growth, development and differentiation
  • ‚Äč

NOTE: As with any aesthetic procedure, patient selection is critical. PRP Hair Restoration works for patients who are experiencing male or female pattern hair loss. In other words, you need to still have intact hair follicles so this is a procedure that you want to get earlier rather than later. If you are already bald, it is not going to be effective.

Add on PDO Smooth threads - price TBD at consultation.

Monofilament thread treatment also significantly improved hair mass index and hair counts in a study of women with female androgenetic alopecia, researchers reported in March 2020 in the Journal of Dermatological Treatment.

In fact, there are studies suggesting the threads result in noticeable hair growth. Indian researchers evaluated the efficacy and safety of PDO thread insertion into the scalp in a small study of men with androgenic alopecia. They found that at 12 weeks, all five patients had appreciably increased hair counts, according to a letter to the editor published in 2015 in the Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology.

PROCEDURE

The PRP Hair Restoration procedure is:

  • Easy
  • Safe
  • Effective
The first thing that will happen is that we will draw a small amount of your blood and place it into a sterile, disposable container. This container goes into a special centrifuge for about 10 minutes that spins the blood in order to separate out just the platelet rich plasma. This is what is injected through a very fine needle into the areas of the scalp where your hair is thinning.

Since it is difficult to anesthetize the head, we use a combination of ice packs and distraction. Most patients tolerate the procedure well. There is really very little downtime involved with this procedure. Your scalp is going to feel full and possibly a little tingly right after your procedure, but this will resolve on its own in about a day or two. The only restrictions that I ask of my PRP Hair Restoration patients is that you not wash your hair for at least 4 hours following your procedure and avoid exercise for 24 hours.
