A recent clinical trial showed a 22%* reduction in BMI with Mounjaro in comparison to a 6.1% reduction with Ozempic. Below is a graft showing weight loss in pounds over 40 weeks, comparing Ozempic to Mounjaro.
The New England Journal of Medicine stated “[t]his is an unusually substantial degree of weight reduction in response to an anti-obesity medication as compared with other phase three clinical trials.”
*Results vary. Clinical trial participants adhered to healthful, balanced meals with a deficit of 500 calories per day; and at least 150 minutes of physical activity per week.
What is Mounjaro/Tirzepatide and Ozempic/Semaglutide – Wevogy/Semaglutide?
Ozempic/Semaglutide – Wegovy/Semaglutide and Mounjaro/Tirzepatide work more or less the same way — by mimicking the incretin hormones that your body naturally produces when you eat food.
Both are once-weekly injections. Mounjaro/Tirzepatide acts on both GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) receptor and GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) receptor agonist that involves the control of blood sugar levels. GIP has been shown to decrease food intake while blunting the metabolic adaptive responses that usually occur with calorie restriction resulting in weight reductions, and when combined with GLP-1 receptor agonism, may result in greater effects on markers of metabolic dysregulation such as body weight, glucose and lipids.
What is the difference? Ozempic/Semaglutide – Wegovy/Semaglutide acts solely on GLP-1 receptors. This doesn’t mean that Ozempic/Semaglutide – Wegovy/Semaglutide is an inferior medication when it comes to improving metabolic health: How well Ozempic/Semaglutide – Wegovy/Semaglutide (or any other drug) works for your body depends on a multitude of individual factors, ranging from your genetic profile and health history to your physical predispositions, lifestyle, and preferences.
